It’s been a while since I !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , my daughter’s hedgehog. If you can’t tell, he’s grown quite a bit since then!
After watching him run on his wheel, I completely understand where they got the idea for Sonic. Look at his little legs go!
His wheel is too small for him, so we have a new one on order. My daughter says they can travel up to five miles in a night. I was hoping she would find one with a counter so we could see how far he really runs, but she ordered it before we talked about it. No matter, this is an opportunity for a weekend !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! !
So far, Watson has been neat, but he’s definitely not a pet for everyone. It’s like owning a unique car - it’s interesting to see, but few people are willing to put in the work to keep it running.

The appearance of the native hedgehogs in Finland is very similar but ours are a bit darker. They are nocturnal so you don’t see these very often but they are quite common near human population.

I knew a guy once who had a pet hedgehog named Prick. True story.

He is super cute! The wife and I had a hedgie named Moe. We talked about wondering how far he ran at night. It is really cool you found this project. MOe broke / wore out 2 wheels before we found one that was hedgehog durable.
The Giant Silent Spinner wheel is what worked, but you cannot use the cage mount you need to keep it on the metal stand to absorb the vibrations.

I’ve never heard of pet hedgehogs, far less hedgehog wheels.

Even more common squashed flat on the road I’m afraid.

Never name a pet something that you aren’t willing to yell out loud. “ Prick! Prick! Come here, boy!”
It can lead to trouble....

I’m not sure which one she ordered. I found one that is metal and has ball bearings to make it quieter and more durable. The downside is that it has a fairly large footprint and I’m not sure the cage is big enough for the wheel. https://www.amazon.com/Exotic-Nutrition-Metal-Flying-Saucer/dp/B0115X92AO/ref=sr_1_23?ie=UTF8&qid=1523284033&sr=8-23&keywords=hedgehog+wheel

It’s surprising how docile a ball of quills can be. He won’t come to you if called, but he’ll let you scoop him up and handle him. I don’t think we’ll be playing fetch with him anytime soon. A dog he is not.

The saucers definitely take up more space. A plastic saucer was Moe’s 2nd wheel and the shortest lived, about 2 weeks. There are a couple that look pretty good under the Amazon hedgehog wheel search including the one I recommended, so you and Watson should be good!

I wonder what those quills do to tires.
